Introduction
Hello! My name is Sam Corbett, a senior at NCC enrolled in FILM 100. My favorite film is a tough thing to choose, given the wide range of genres in film. How can I compare Moneyball to Goodfellas? I can't. But I know they're both some of my favorite films.
I try to watch all types of films, from Korean movies to old black-and-white movies my grandparents watched to the newest blockbusters and everything in between.
I love sports films, mafia films, heist films, murder mysteries, horrors, action, comedies, and just about anything on the screen that isn't The Room. If I could only watch five films for the rest of my life, I think I would pick both Moneyball and Goodfellas along with Inglorious Basterds, Scream, and Knives Out. Sports, crime, action, horror, comedy, and mystery, all in one!
I decided to take this class for my love of film. I started getting into film production as a freshman in high school when I joined the school's radio/TV program. That grew my love for film as a whole and got my eyes to look elsewhere besides the box office. I want to be able to learn more about hidden meaning in films and how directors use techniques to convey messages to viewers without making it obvious. I also want to learn how films are made post-production with big studios. What gets left on the cutting room floor and why?
My plans post-grad are to work in sports media, ideally as a broadcaster or show host. I've done behind-the-camera work before and I like editing, but my dream has always been to be a broadcaster for an MLB franchise. I am the Sports Director at WONC, have broadcasted two national championships, won several awards, and expanded my network from coast to coast with connections to various sports franchises.
However, I know I need to take it one day at a time, just like with FILM 100! See you next week!
I loved all the movies you mentionedm especially Goodfellas and Moneyball. Some other suggestions for movies to watch if you haven't seen them are The Irishman and Draft Day. They are both similar to Moneyball and Goodfellas. I joined WONC last year, although I am not pursuing a media degree I do love this realm.
